Gracious in Defeat

Just as shocked as everybody is, I was saddened by Pacquiao’s loss. It was a knockout punch. Plain and clear: Marquez won.

I am a Filipino and it is in my blood the burning fervor of support to a fellow bringing our country’s name. However, what is really worse than the loss is the flock of animals people mocking, insulting, and bashing Pacman. These same people who boastfully posts the “We are very proud of you” lines are now throwing daggers of burning salt to the already wounded hero. Just uurrrgh. *facepalm*

Then there’s the blame game. Pointing out Pacquiao’s change of religion. The absence of the rosary and the sign of the cross during the fight. Seriously? Hasn’t anyone noticed how Pacquiao’s life has dramatically changed since the shift of religion? Giving up the vices (gambling and alleged womanizing), studying the Bible, leaning more into helping others, sharing his blessings, glorifying God?

I am not against any religion or anything. It’s just that it dismays me how much R-E-S-P-E-C-T is forgotten. Come on! You should have learned that already. It is not that he’s a criminal or he did something bad, he is a human being. Even animals like some of you need to be respected.

I have so much admiration to such a strong warrior as Manny. No more back slinging of any issues. Just humbly honoring the winner, accepting the loss, being gracious in defeat.

Very well said.

Very well said. I pretty much agree to this.

  1. oo nga! kudos to Pacman padin 🙂 He is a champion naman in God’s sight and that is what matters most. Keri lang pati yun kasi wala namang title na pinaglabanan sa game na yun. 🙂

Btw, ang ganda ng effect ng snow ng WP sa black mong background hehehe

  2. Perhaps it’s about time that we ponder on how we look at or overrate this so-called ‘Pride’. When we shout “____ Pride!” out loud, that thing that we are referring to, is it really something that we can collectively be proud of, or is it just invoked to make up for our inadequacies?

I’m saddened that Pacuiao lost yet I’m glad at the same time so WE would learn to reconsider if not to shrug off the “illusion of pride” fed to us by marketing strategists appealing to our emotion just so we’ll remain a bandwagon of stupid followers.

Boxing is a sport. Period! No need to be proud about petty things that doesn’t significantly contribute to the country than just to give us pride and arrogance. The same pride or nationalism that Hitler, Stalin and the likes had which brought division, war, and casualties.

And yes, sometimes love just aint enough. 😀
    Great post Dale! 😉

  3. I totally agree with you and Karen! I actually liked what happened (OMG, sue me people!) because it tested who we are. It is also good that we experience things like this since delivering lessons in the traditional way do not sink-in in our system anyway. But still, despite the loss, Manny is a remarkable man. Just look at how he reacted! He did not even nit-pick or walk out. No matter what, Pacquiao is in my heart.

Very well written! Nalaglag ako sa upuan duon sa last line, sa song. Hahaha. Loved this post RD! :3

  4. YES, sometimes love just ain’t enough..heheh. AND sometimes (for the shallow people) NOTHING’s ever gonna be enough. They find flaws. They enjoy a champion’s victory. BUT what they really love to see is a champion’s downfall. What can we say, they have nothing better to do with their sorry lives.

Perfect sense nak.. I must say, reading the first few paragraphs of your post disheartened me. (grabeh bya jud q ka.affected if mapildi c manny, maguol jud q.. labaw na if naai mangdaut niya., grrr..tsk) It’s a good thing I’ve never read negative posts against Manny (this means I chose my friends ‘very well’ in fb 😉 hahah), ’cause if I did,. Well, you know me 😉 The moment he chose God, he already won.

  5. For me Manny is victorious because he let God change him.

    “Sometimes when we touch. ♪♫♪

Sometimes love just ain’t enough. ♪♫♪” – naalala ko tuloy ang pagkanta ni Manny sa Jimmy Kimmel, feel na feel. 😉

    have a good day, gandang pasko… 🙂

Be real. Spill it. What do you think?
